I love the artwork of young children. It allows me to look at the world through their innocent eyes. The walls of my study at home are plastered with SpongeBob, creatures of the rain forest (including a bumble bee made from an empty toilet paper roll and pipe cleaners) and stick-figure portraits of our seven-member family. My favorite is posted above – a picture of Moses receiving the tablets of stone on Mount Sinai. My 8-year-old daughter Brianne drew it one day as we talked about the Ten Commandments.
Check out the detail. Lightning, fire and smoke on the summit as Moses prepares to descend on – get this – a stepladder. She scribbled one of the commandments in purple Crayon, "No other gods before Me." I am so proud of her. If her drawing melted my heart, and it did, how much more her heavenly Father? Brianne believes in Yeshua (Jesus) because she accepts what my wife and I have taught her from the Bible. Her faith is unshakable. While it is important for Christian adults to grow in biblical knowledge, wisdom and discernment, we must never lose that simple, unwavering trust.
Yeshua says in Luke 18:17, "Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it."
Addendum – Some believe the real Mount Sinai is a peak called Jebel el Lawz in Saudi Arabia. The apostle Paul hints at the location in Galatians 4:25, "For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia." I've included an Anchorstone.com photo of the mountain, which has a burnt, blackened summit. No sign of a ladder, however.
