Search and rescue

Reflecting on Yeshua's mission statement in Luke 19:10 –

. . . for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Let's highlight the word seek. Not only does Messiah offer salvation freely, He pursues us. The Greek word for "seek" is zeteo, an action that denotes desire. Our Savior is not a distant, impersonal deity. In the parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15, Yeshua speaks allegorically of Himself, leaving the sheepfold in the wilderness to search for one lost sheep. And when He finds it, He lays it on His shoulders and rejoices. I like that – Yeshua comes looking for us, standing at the door to our heart and knocking. The good Shepherd promises in Revelation 3:20, "If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."
