The words of Yeshua (Jesus) recorded in the gospels read like poetry. The Messiah has a distinct voice, a pattern of speech unique to Him. Examples:
• Whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it (Mark 16:24).• My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me (John 10:27).
• No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from the Father I have made known to you (John 15:15).
The more we read the Word (I recommend a one-year daily reading schedule), the more familiar His voice becomes. His speech is different from the sound bites we hear on cable news, or even Christian TV. He speaks with divine authority. Even the temple guards, sent to seize Yeshua, were overcome by His teaching (John 7:46). Returning empty-handed, the guards report, "No man ever spoke like this Man!"
The Son of Man speaks today but it takes a trained ear. A lot of people claim to speak for Him, but do they? We can distinguish His voice by spending time with Him – reading the Word, talking with Him in prayer. We don't need a mediator or translator. Yeshua speaks to us personally, calling us by name.

Not only am I drawn to the poetic way He expresses Himself, but the weight of His words. He speaks with divine authority. Even officers of the priests and Pharisees, sent to seize Yeshua, were overcome by His preaching. Returning empty-handed, the officers pleaded, "No man ever spoke like this Man!"
The Son of Man still speaks today. It is critical that we distinguish His voice. Yeshua says He calls His sheep by name and leads them out. This is not some distant, detached deity. He is intimately involved in the affairs of men. And where He is, we can also go. Yeshua promises eternal life to those who hear and follow Him.
